Paros is a part of the Cyclades island. It was our second stop and we were there for 4 days. The island is only a 40-minutes ferry ride from Mykonos. Paros is a mix of traditional Greek houses, beautiful beaches and rural villages as well. More local is living here than in Mykonos. This is the best choice for you, if you would like to enjoy your holiday next to the sea and see how the local's are truly living.
Where to stay
Paros is cheaper than Mykonos as it is less popular among foreign tourists. I've just found the island, when I have checked the ferry route between Mykonos and Santorini. I'm glad that I did, because the island was truly magical and less touristy! You can find many great hotels and apartments on a really great price. We stayed at Madaky hotel in the center of Naoussa, what was really okay, nothing special but quite decent.
How to get around
The island is bigger (196 square kilometer) than Mykonos, so renting cars or motorbikes/ATVs is a recommended and comfortable way of getting around. We also rented an ATV for 3 days at Motorland .The company was very reliable, it was a good experience. The prices are different based on how big quad you want.
There are public buses as well. We used it between Parikia and Naoussa. The ticket is only 1,8 EUR. Obviously it was a very cheap way of travelling, however it wasn't so comfortable. The buses went once in every hour. Don't forget if you are in Greece you should sign with your arm if you would like to get on the bus (except bust terminals)! We only used the buses when we arrived and left the island.
Where to eat
We stayed in Naoussa, so we found many good restaurants and gelateria there. If you plan to travel this amazing island I highly recommend don’t miss these ones.
1. To Takimi
It is famous for its Greek mezzes. You try many different starters from seafood dishes to Greek salads. This was the best place where we ate during our holiday. The dishes was so delicious. We ordered 5 starters together and we were full. See some pictures below!
2. Marmitta
Marmitta is another recommended restaurant in Naoussa. There were wide range of Greek meals. We have tried Chicken souvlaki and Moussaka. There were a few guests in this restaurant due to the pandemic.
3. Nonna Crema
It is very great Gelateria. The ice cream was so creamy and delicious. Moreover the size of the scoop was also worth the price. We got a huge portion of ice cream as a small size.
Best beaches and towns
The two main towns are Parikia and Naoussa. I highly suggest to find an accommodation in one of the two town. Personally I liked Naoussa more than Parikia. Let see why!
Parikia
This town is the capital of Paros. The main port is in Parikia, so our ferry arrived here. You find the bus stop next to the port, so it is very easy to be in direction to Naoussa. You find many shops, restaurants and coffees as well. Roaming on the white cobble streets were truly magical. Looking the oleanders hanging from the walls of the houses was remarkable experience.
Naoussa
Naoussa is another important town on this island. You find many great shops, restaurants and coffee shops here as well. Moreover it has got a little port, what was full with fisherman boats, which has got a unique atmosphere. You can find more beautiful beaches near to Naoussa than around Parikia.
Lefkes
I have found many great pictures about Lefkes on Instagram. Honestly it was a disappointment for us. The old town of Lefkes village was very small. We have found only a very little small main square with a temple. We have looked for more sight to see without any result. On the other hand the road trip to Lefkes was so beautiful as the town located in the valley. The trip was worth for the panorama for sure.
The main reason why I recommend this island are the beautiful beaches with crystal clear water. The price for sunbeds and umbrella were somewhat affordable between 15-20 EUR. Most of the beaches had got beach bars. Excepting Kolymbithres, but there are restaurants near to it. Here is the best beaches on Paros:
1. Krios Beach
2. Santa Maria Beach bar
3. Monasteri Beach
4. Kolymbithres
Paros was really worth to visit, if you are in the neighborhood like Mykonos or Santorini don't miss it. Swimming in the sea and sunbathing on the beaches. Eating delicious Greek dishes and roaming on the white cobble streets will be a good choice to relax. You should slow down if you are here and enjoying your summer holiday. I recommend this island to families with little children as there were many shallow beaches like Monasteri Beach.
